I don't post much (I lurk a lot). Though from what I've seen SG I would consider you one of the most clueful posters on this site.

However, I have to disagree with you somewhat. In the wake of 9/11 our country has been taking offensive strides to eliminate future terrorist threats. You say that right now Saddam knows he won't be able to get away with anything. Even if I grant you that (and I don't totally agree with it), it doesn't preclude the possibility that some day he will be able to do it and that he's just biding his time.

We know that in the past he has had the means and the desire. He hasn't let anyone watch to make sure he isn't making more chemical weapons. He's not obeying the sanctions that were agreed to.

On top of this, I'm sure the President is privy to more information on what is going on over there than the American public. There may be information regarding a more immediate threat of which we have not been made aware. I don't find it unfathomable that what he is doing is protecting the US from future attacks.

In cases like this, I think it is unwise to judge our leaders so harshly. They simply are in a different position than the average person. They have advisors, strategists, and an information network vastly superior to anything you or I will ever have. We simply cannot judge his actions adequately without knowing the full story.

From your perspective, and with what you know, you might disagree. I see no reason to use this as an excuse to call all Americans imperialists (as some people have implied on this board) or to even imply that Bush himself is one.
