It took over 50 years of speaking out to shame the jerkweeds in power to grant women the vote. It took 20 years for the Civil Rights Movement to get the progress they did. It took ten years for AIDS activists to get the government serious about the disease. None of that would have happened if the little ladies had stayed quietly in their sewing circles and the African-Americans had stayed meekly at the back of the buses and if the homosexuals had retreated back into their closets. Notwithstanding some twerps floating around who are so rabidly averse to any social progress, most of us would agree that the world is definitely a better place for women, blacks and gays for the efforts of those pioneering souls who literally spent their last breaths SPEAKING OUT.
