the state *recognition* of these rights was hard won, but I tend to agree with the founding fathers, among others, that these are natural rights-meaning that they are right *by nature*. My "right to live" is dependent on the universe being what it is, though my actually living is indeed dependent on my state's recognition and determined protection of that right. To live in a nation where all rights were honored and cherished would indeed be a privilege. I hope one day such a nation exists.
