The current regime of the United States seems to be a bit out of control. This parallel's in a small way to the age of McCarthyism, in that the government was allowed free reign to do whatever it felt necessary to root out the 'communists'. Now the government feels that they can do whatever they feel necessary to root out 'terrorists'. At this point the government is not emitting Patriotic ideas, but rather is practicing a very harsh form of Jingoism. Isn't this what France so wanted to avoid and were frightened by when LePen was so successful this year? What can we do about it? I truly believe the first steps in this matter are small. Follow Michael Newdow's lead and question the role of religion in politics, remind the government that no we are NOT a Christian nation. These types of small steps may help to diffuse the Jingoism that is growing and show the world that Patriotism does not mean patent distrust and hate for anything that is Muslim.
