TO DEFLECT ATTENTION FROM CORP SCANDALS! by NOLAWitch 2002-07-09 06:09:04
That's what it's all about. Secretly in his heart he is so glad 9/11 happened so that he could appear to be a competent leader and kick some Afghani butt. How can we question U.S. policy when there's a war going on? How can we deal with trivialities such as Enron and WorldCom when our troops are dealing with Al Qaeda?

You know, the 9/11 attacks killed around 3K people. They destroyed lots of real estate containing 100K people, left some businesses in the lurch, violently shoved the insurance market into a hardening period and made 3K families bereft. That had huge repercussions. The thing was that it was localized to New York City, a hillside in Pennsylvania and Washington, D.C. Nobody benefitted and only Al Qaeda had a party. It touched us all because it was a media event.

Conversely, the Enron and WorldCom scandals and others waiting to hatch like spiders affect more Americans directly than the events of 9/11. Firstly, there are the tens of thousands of employees of these companies who lost not only their jobs but also their 401(k)s which became worthless as company stock swirled down the toilet. Secondly, there are the hundreds of thousands of investors of those companies who lost millions as the swine in the corporate ivory towers stuffed their pockets with cash. Thirdly, there are the millions of investors who are now watching their portfolios shrink like a boiled cashmere sweater. The stock market takes a more alarming dip each day. The effects of the avarice of the CEOs, etc. of Enron, etc. are more far-reaching than Bin Laden's terror attack.

Some of these ratbags are building $100K homes with their ill-gotten booty. For justice to be done, we must demand that they turn over every dime and all their assets to make restitution to the people they stole from. Then they should be sent to a regular prison, not some country-club, minimum-security picnic for well-heeled fat cats. When they get out, they can go live in a trailer park with the rest of the trash.

This is why Dumbya is waging war. So nobody will bother him with trivialities that affect us directly. So he can tell people to go away, he's got a war to fight; he doesn't have time for corporate "victimless" crimes, which as we know have many victims on many levels.

The only way we're going to change things, people, is to get so honked off at the way things are that we speak out and write emails and phone representatives and inform the sheep around us of the impending dangers. I talked with one of my coworkers last week about an issue in the news and she said she didn't care as it didn't affect her directly. What a crappy citizen she is. The sad reality is that her name is Legion and entrenched apathy like that is hard to dislodge. I'm so sick of people who are happy with the status quo. They never make any progress on the planet.

SUBVERT THE DOMINANT PARADIGM, Y'ALL!
