BSD still puts out their UNIX (they kinda did the origional *NIX)
Open-BSD, Free-BSD, and Net-BSD are Variations of BSD-UNIX
Solaris is Sun Microsystems Version of UNIX, much like AIX is IBM's, HP-UX is Hewlet Packards, Digital-UNIX is/was Digials (ran on the Alpha chip, sold to Compaq, and now ruined), IRIX = SGI, blah blah blah,
UNIX variations grew out of each company going their own way...
Much Like The Linux Distro's occassionally try, RPM/DEB being the most obvious to me... I personaly like the tar.gz packages myself *grin* dload and build yourself - the Slackware Philosophy...
But I don't even use Slackware anymore either |
