it's the way she does all these nifty crafty things, and makes light of the amount of time required.
I wish I knew where that email was. I got a Martha Stewart Christmas email once (joke, of course) where she said things like;
"Oh, I just finished making some fresh squeezed orange juice from the oranges growing on the trees I planted outside, in these neat little pots I threw myself, and I thought I would drop you a quick little note.
Please excuse the quality of the paper, as I made it myself just before I strung 4000 feet of cranberries and popcorn for our traditional Christmas decorations. Normally I would have taken a little more time to pick all the slivers over 1/32" in size out of the pulp before pressing it, but I was a little rushed this morning. The ink I made from squid glands turned out especially nice, though, don't you think? Escpecially when used with this goose quill I pulled of the goose I raised specifically for this purpose.
I'm sure you understand when I say I have to keep this note short since I have yet to embroider the table cloth for the luncheon we put on each year. I'm so embarrassed, only 400 people are coming this year. Once I get the turkeys in the ovens it will go much smoother though, I am sure."
The email goes on like that forever. It's hilarious if you know who she is. The point is, she does all these outrageously intricate handmade things, but what you never see is the army of people in the background preparing everything so she can walk in, do one little thing and act like it's all a Good Thing. |
