Question of the Day! by kickstart2006-11-19 12:23:33
  Angry letters mostly... by feather802 2002-06-25 10:54:09
Hey I'm an idealistic youth who likes to make herself a pain in the @$$ for her elected representatives. I should have a sign "Warning future political activist at work". At the last provincial election I wrote a nice, polite letter to the candidates asking their position on certain key issues. I sent out five letters, and only got two responses. The first was a form letter thanking me for my support from Elizabeth Witmer. The other was a personal letter from Judy Greenwood-Spears. She answered all of my questions ever though I can't vote (yet). She explained her position and the position of the Green Party on key issues. She is one of the only politicians that I have any respect for and the Green Party got a new member who pays dues. It was definitely worth the ten minute it took her to write the letter.

The other fun political anecdote is to do with a certain former education minister named Janet Ecker. She visited my school for a talk on women and the glass ceiling and at the end there was time for a Q&A. I walked up to the mike and point blank asked her why the width of our school's hallways were a factor in trying to close our school. She stared at me for a second like I had grown horns. Man I wish I had a camera... Anyway a little political aide scurried up on stage and explained to her what I was talking about. She then thanked me for my question and told me to direct it to the school board and it's trustees. I was mad that she hadn't answered my question and so was the rest of the school. They started to boo her. The principal had to come up on stage and yell before we had order again. Maybe I should look into that warning sign...
