...dropping the family name and all the associated cultural baggage the system entails was a simplification! For me anyway. Also, it makes all the government computers get the panics which has to be worth something. Medicare knows me as Glenn A Onlyname and all the Doctors on the South Coast of NSW know that one! Not as good as a character in a book I once read who's (real) name was Hen3ry (the 3 is silent). He did it for all those Govt databases who would spit the dummy at trying to enter a number in a name field. And we all know about the artist formerly known as.... (what is the unicode key for that symbol anyay ;-)
