First, if someone is following you at 70 MPH in 3 inches of snow, there are at least two confirmed idiots driving. ;-)
But, down here, you are lucky if people slow down. We don't know how to drive in snow (and, arguably, in any kind of weather). I've seen someone slide right through a red light doing a mere 30 MPH, because they had no clue that snow is slippery.
I've spun out in my front wheel drive car going only 15 MPH on the interstate, and I was nervous that the fella about a quarter mile behind me wouldn't be able to stop before I got back in the single open lane (on a 6-lane road, it's easy to spin out and not hit anything). I was broadside to him, in the only lane. It was a tense moment, but I did the backup, inch forward, backup routine calmly and managed to get back on track in time.
I saw a public transport bus in the ditch. I didn't see it go in, so I can only imagine the shock on the passengers' faces.
Every time we get snow on the roads, people treat it like rain, which they treat like dry roads, so you can sort of begin to see the problem.
You're lucky those people were going slow. |
