Question of the Day! by kickstart2006-11-19 12:23:33
I turned it into a story outline... by glenalec 2002-06-22 18:01:20
...that I might make into something one day.

In this dream I was a young female uni student. My perspective switched between 1st and 3rd many times. The name Michelle was, of course, not part of the dream. This is pretty raw. (not to emntion rather cliched) If I did anything with it, the final draft would likely be unrecognisable ti this!

Michelle (an elec.eng. undergraduate) meets the spirit. She dreams she is deep within a storm-water drain. The spirit of a young man tries to warn her of something but is too insubstancial to tell her anything. She sees/hears/feels flashes of horrible and plain incomprehensible things - the garbled final memories of the spirit's. Michelle experiences a fragmatic and muted version of the rape and torture of this young man. Included in the memories is a room with a hidden mechanism to open a concealed trap-door.

At university, Michelle's best friend (inspite of the girl being an airhead and a bimbo) gushes abouta woman she has met - a milionaire's wife. Her friend is going to a small private party at the woman's house. Where? Her friend doesn't know. The woman will pick her up. Friend wants Michelle to come.

The woman is glamerous and cool - too cool. She reminds Michelle of the vamps that inhabit the back of the uni-bar, trying to look menacing. But this woman doesn't have to try. Michelle is reluctant, but the woman is persuasive. They get in her car.

Also in the car, driving, is the woman's husband. He is friendly. Michelle asks him where they are going. He gives an address about an hour's drive from the university. They arrive at a small mansion on a wealthy beachside track.

Inside, they meet a small group of men and woman sitting around a swimming pool with a sliding granite cover in place. A swim is suggested. People begin to undress. Neither Michelle or her friend have swimming costumes. Michelle mentions this. A fuss is made over it. No-one else was going to wear a costume, bit id she is uncomfortable, Michelle can borrow one off her hostess. Michell's friend says she doesn't mind. Michelle has had enough - she doesn't mind skinny-dipping with friends, even in a mixed group, but these are strangers. And strange in more than just being never met before, though Michelle can't quite place what is unnerving her.

Michelle tries to leave, but is blocked by the woman's husband who turns nasty. Michelle's friend is grabbed by some of the guests. Michelle bluffs that she told her family where she was going - she is close to her hometown nad was going to visit them after the party. How could she do that when she didn't know the address? Mobile phone text messaging.

The husband tries to grab her. She exercises her womens' self-defence classes and gets past him and out the door. She is on the run down the street, trying to keep low behind ornamental shrubbery and a flood embankment as the husband emerges from the house and tries to follow. Desperate times but she makes it to the end of the street. She hot-wires a car (first time to try to do this) and escapes, but is soon followed. High-speed chace to the freeway where she picks up a police speed trap and is happy to be arrested.

The police arrive at the house. It is deserted. Michelle's mobile phone is found on the floor of the room adjoining the pool area. A brief search reveals nothing, but Michelle recognises a room and finds the mechanism to open a concealed trap-door. Below the house is a torture dungeon. Michelle's friend is badly beaten and left for dead, but it appears this was done quickly before the criminals fled, and there was no time to use the torture equipment. Also found are horrible videoes of hat has happened to other victims. Michelle's friend is taken away to hospital. But where have the criminals gone? Michelle has no clues and no other exit can be found (even if the mechanism was found, it was turned off from the other side of the wall).

The storm-water drain: The criminals have fled here from another secret exit. One is tapping university records to find Michelle's family address. They are arguing - they never believed they could be found out. They are enraged at Michelle and determined on vengeance.

...And then I woke up.

I think I'd been doing Hotel California on the Karaoke not long before!
