I once got 10 HP cards for free because my boss couln't get them to work. After one look at the HP homepage I found out that you needed some DOS program to set some parameters on the card ;-) It might be worth a try, even though the first question on the Belkin networking FAQ page is : 1. Fastening: Is there a particular type of brad I should use to attach the cable to wood? Can I use a staple gun?
