| Having been in other cultures where people actually THANK people, I would have to say Americans on a whole are rather rude and thankless folk. The first word I picked up in Swedish was Tack (thanks) because it was used all the time. Like, at the end of family meals, thanking (sincerely!) the one who cooked them, thanking servicepeople for their help rather than ignoring them, etc. And wow, it felt warm. We need to thank each other more! We're too independent, individualisting and too ready to take the help of others for granted. |
