containing the icon for your email and look at the title. If it says something like "ma_petite on Local", you are replicating. All that means is that you have a local copy of your mail database, updated on some schedule, rather than working directly on the server copy. If it says "ma_petite on mail_server", you are working directly on the server copy.

Replicating has numerous advantages. It gives you the ability to read and work with your mail even when the server or network is down. You are working locally rather than on a server, so most things run much faster. If you goof and delete the wrong item, you will probably have a (brief) window of opportunity to go and grab the server copy before the next replication cycle propagates the delete up to the server. etc.

The down side is that you will have a copy of your (potentially large) mail database taking up disk space. That really shouldn't be an issue though, as they generally aren't all That big.
