Hey Verisign! Neener Neener Neeener!!! by UberDomino2006-11-19 12:55:59
  <rant>On Verisign</rant> by NotaGeek 2002-06-21 09:39:41
Start rant......

I can write a book on the problems I had with Verisign. Several years ago Verisign bought out the company which hosted my domain. They cancel my e-mail service without notice. When I e-mail them a receipt showing I had at least 4 months to go on the account with the bought-out hosting company, they claimed they had no records and told me I had to pay them over $200 a year for an e-mail account.

We settled for about $60 dollars.

I bought several domain names from AOL not knowing they were an affiliate of Verisign. When I changed my address, they billed me $75 for technical support. And, they started billing me every three months. Here's the crazy part. They insist (at least at that time) that you give them your credit card information for automatic billing. When I tried to remove the credit card information, their computer system would not let me do it without me giving them a new credit card account. The new account was immediately verified and if it did not check out, they would not let you remove the previous credit card. Result, they billed my credit cards every three months. (BTW, I switched the card to American Express. Then, I reported the AMEX card lost. AMEX does not allow auto billings on replaced cards. Unlike some other cards. (another rant))

I ran as fast as I could away from that company. That still did not work. They tried to bill me for my domain despite the fact I moved it to another hosting company. When I complain, they turned me over to collection agency. They gave me some story about not following certain steps. When I filed a complaint against them, they dropped their claim.

One more rant. I let a couple of domain names expire with no intentions of renewing. Verisign acquired those domains and sent me an e-mail giving me the new expiration dates. A few weeks later they sent me a bill. I ignored them until they threaten to put me in collections. This got my attentions. When I called, they said I owe them because I did not tell them I did not want to renew the names. It took another complaint to get them off my back.

This is the minor stuff.

end rant.
