Annoying colleague by Spisefisken2002-06-21 00:11:40
MMM that reminds me... by abaron 2002-06-21 00:57:17
Of the time I was working phone support for a Mac distributer. Customer brought his iMac in for one reason or another, we fixed it and sent it out the door.
About 30 minutes later I get a call from the customer, very angry, in regards to what shoddy work we do. Appearently his computer would not dial up to the web. I'm thinking Hmmm, we didn't touch anything to do with the web.
First thing I ask him "Can you verify everything is plugged in properly", imeadiate response "Everything is hooked up"... OK get him to go through other trouble shooting things but every time he tries it sounds to me like his phone line isn't hooked up.
After about 20 minutes (hand walking him through EVERYTHING) I decided to try another tact. "Can you unplug the modem and plug it back in for me, that may fix the problem..." I say. His response "where's the modem plugged in?" uh oh "On the side" I say, where it always has been! 30 seconds after he comes back "there's a phone line here that isn't plugged in, could that be the problem?"
Oh boy, there I was ready to tell him off, but we are in customer/luser support, so it is not recommended, if we want to keep our jobs. I tell him in a very control non menacing voice "Yes, the computer needs to be hooked up to the phone line to dial out"
After I hang up the phone I don't know whether to laugh or cry, the outragous stupidity!

There is a reason why I have sworn off doing tech-support!
