Long live broadband! by Pic2002-06-20 09:07:21
out of curiosity by Arienadean 2002-06-20 09:23:49
where you are on dialup before did you have to pay per min phone connection charges even if it was a local call as well as isp charges? I hear that is at least the case in the UK. In canada and the US though we pay a flat rate per month for local calling which usually includes a fair size area.(some areas that were long distance where I am they reciently changed to my "local calling zone" so I don't have to pay long distance for calling them anymore) I figure phone bills/net bills must get pretty high in parts of europe. I'm suprised more broadband isn't about.

Someone and I were talking the other day about broadband coverage in BC compared to the UK. Since there is one main phone company(only recient years did private companies come around that basically offer long distance and internet) BCTEL/TELUS we can pretty much get ADSL anywhere in BC. For cable access most of souther BC can get it though some other areas get satellite to cable access. My sister lives in Burns Lake in northern BC(up near the Yukon border I guess<shrug>) and she used to get cable broad band.(which afik would of been via satellite as the cable co. doesn't go that far up. So their local cable co which gets satellite feed then passes things through cable was reselling to a isp there. Now my sister gets ADSL as that isp went down) Anyways though parts of BC(British Columbia, Canada for some that might not know) might be very rural and not as populous they all can get some form of broadband.(unless they have no phone and no cable which would probably only be a small amount of our population) The person was suprised that despite the population, size, and ruralness of some of BC that we get much better service(and broad band coverage) than they do.
