...you're not connecting through the PABX from Redmond/Hell which crashes for several minutes every time someone tries to dial out and all the lines are busy, and inserts pings onto the line regularly, and drops out my line every fourth time (or so) someone else in the building picks up a phone! My Chinese is still crud, but I understand modem squeals fluently - no joke: I can predict if an attempted connection will succeed from the dial-in noises every time! Thankgoodness I have the go-ahead for that shared DSL line. It isn't the speed that bothers me, it's the dropouts and the difficulty re-connecting!
