glenalec is celebrating... by glenalec2002-06-20 08:29:01
  hmmm by Arienadean 2002-06-20 09:01:10
well I'm online 24/7 unless I've gone away so my uptime since last boot which is also my online time: 2 days, 20 hrs, 34 min. Though hardly my longest time as I've made it over a month... As for speeds try here: http://bandwidthplace.com/speedtest/

My results for today:

Your raw speed was 1459840.94 bits per second.
There are 3 meaningful ways we can interpret this number

Communications: 1.5 megabits per second
How communication devices are rated. Kilo means 1,000 and mega means 1,000,000. Examples include 56k modem and 10Mbit Ethernet

Storage: 178.2 kilobytes per second
The way data is measured on your hard drive and how FTP programs measure transfer speeds. Kilo is 1,024 and mega is 1,048,576.

1MB file download: 5.7 seconds
The time it would take you to download a 1 megabyte file at this speed.

Cable Internet speeds in Canada: compared to all connection types worldwide yours is fantastic
(on the graph thing my connect surpassed the average by quite a bit this time)

I forget the fastest dialup I've been on but I think it hit the max ability of my X2 v.90 before<shrug> I've not used a 14.4 for at least 4 yrs. And yes it feels slow to go back to dialup ... worse when on an older computer.(My sons can do dial up and its a p100... mine is a Athlon Thunderbird on broadband) Luckily broadband isn't too expensive for me(not much more than I was paying for a reasonable unlimited dialup isp). Since I share the connect with my roommate and pay for a second IP it costs me $30cdn/mo. I'm not sure but I think someone told me it costs more than that in the US and I think it's 33pounds in the UK if your in an area that actually gets broadband.(I think southern England and up to Sunderland<shrug>)
