Has more to do with the fact that American English began in the 17th century and has acquired a heap more influence from your various immigrants. Plus, of course, the tendency for early settlers to have home-education, the development of isolated communities (who develop their own particular dialects), general isolation ... Im sure anyone studying linguistics seriously could come up with some more reasons ... (where is Haaid when we need him?).

Theres nothing advanced about linguistic decay ... come to think of it, that might be the reason for your atrocious pronunciation as well >:>
