| Home-brew Ginger Beer please... |

... I've almost got the modified pressure-cooker being converted to a ginger-beer still next to (and hooked up to) my PC (which is being converted to a Personal Server - I wanna go wearable in the next few years) put together.
Well, I'm through marking two piles of backloged assignments. Two to go!
This is my English Classes here in China. I set little assignments through the term, but due to unforseen circumstances such as someone moving the mid-term holiday without telling me (they never tell us anything here) and tripping off to Beijing after (with the help of your's truely and two other teachers here) our English Debating team won the regional finals (we came 3rd nationally, the girls went to Thailand to compete in the Asian debating comp), anyways I got a little behind.
Well actually I got big fat behind, but you know what I mean.
Anyways, I'm getting to the end at least until next week whan the final assignment (make a treasure map and write directions to find the treasure) is due.
It's a bit funny and a bit saddening at the same time: Some of these assignments are impossible to plagerise (write a postcard from you to a classmate) while others are easy to find existing examples (make a magazine advertisement in English). A number of students that make ZeroWing look fluent (which is fine - if they were fluent, they wouldn't need to take the class) suddenly hand in a perfect advertisement for an Audi with pictures cut out from the exact advert they plagerised. And they expect me not to notice?
I had to do the "plagerism will get you chucked out of a Western Uni" talk with every class - half these students are going to Aust. next year. But I still get rather obvious plagerisms. In the non english-major classes (international trade - 2 classes of Steffs) - English major classes are great, so are my comp-sci classes.
My favorite, though, is when two students in different classes hand in identical assignments. Most teachers would just F them, but I like to be creative - I mark the assignment and give half the marks to each (still technically an F anyway).
Not that it matters, the school will pass them no matter what I submit on the grading form - they paid the fees to pass, so they will pass.
Holidays after next week :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-)
Debian/testing should be thawed :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-)
I may have the chance to install and tap a fat internet pipe:-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-)
My wife doesn't appear to be coming home tonight :-( :-( :-( :-( :-( :-( :-( :-( :-( :-(
- she workes clean across the city 90min by 3 busses away so often stays at her parent's place (since they are in another city just now) every other night in the week. Ironicaly, her work is 3 minutes walk from where we lived last year. |
