And use the past tense. As a country we set policy for several decades that did not allow natural fires to burn themselves out. As a result it is going to take at least a couple of decades to clear out 50 years of deadwood and chaff.

The fire in Colorado is burning in the worst drought conditions in the recorded history of the state and is burning on way more fuel than it should have had. Because of these two items the fire is buring so hot that it may well be sterilizing the ground (much as some portions of the Yellowstone fire did.) This is not good for the ecosystem and it is going to lead to mudslides and floods when the rainy season starts in July.

The forest service is desperatly trying to set controlled fires during rainy seasons that will clear out what we did not let burn, but this is not a natural fire.

I personally wish the bimbo who set it could be assigned to cleaning porta-johns for her remaining natural life, and her paycheck assigned to various fire departments.
