  Down -- it's a matter of hygiene... when flushed w/lid up, fecal matter becomes airborne to a much greater degree...(didn't you need to know that?)

2. I buy toilet paper every ___ days/weeks/years.   Whenever the standby case in the closet is gone

3. When shopping for clothes, I try on an average of ____ items before making a decision.
  2 -- would be less if women's clothing manufacturers ever really paid attention to sizes.
