It was the OTHER SIDE that wasn't obviously in the hands of the dark side. Up until the point where Saruman (whatever his character was named in this movie, he had the same darned lines as in LOTR! Why bother to learn a new character?) pulled out a red light saber, I was willing to believe that the droid army might be fighting the good fight. :) I was impressed that Lucas would pull that - have all the main characters fighting the good guys! It's actually less interesting to me now that both sides are clearly controlled by Palpatine.
