1. Yes
2. Yes
3. Panasonic
4. AT&T (but improving)
5. Not really
Explanations
1. My old boss asked me if I wanted a cell phone. I said no. He said "I'll give you a cell phone on the condition that......."(insert standard list of conitions here). It was put in my name and I kept it after I quit, he sold the phones from his previous buisness, handed me pre-payed cards to keep the phone going, and the service was in my name anyways. I can't decide if this was a parting perk or his last laugh since I never really wanted one and sometimes feel tied down by it now.
2. Yes, I can throw it into a brick wall and it will survive. I'm rough on electronics and Panasonic makes stuff for people like me. This is my second one of this model, the first one I broke the anteanna off, easy replacement, then my girlfriend ran it through the washer and drier. It didn't survive the last one. (okay so it does have some vulnerabilities.) It also has lots of cool feature like changing the color of the back light and I can email with it. I prefer my two way pager to the phone for email though.
3. Panasonic does make some tough stuff, my cordless phone has survived for about five years, thats not easy to do with me around. My previous and current mobile have taken more than their share of abuse and I drool all over their tough books everytime I look them up.
4. I originally had PrimeCo, they got bought out. AT&T likes to use the "C" (contract) word and that really ticks me off. Some of the other providers are a bit cheaper to, even with better plans. I'm to lazy to switch providers. I gave one of their phone reps a virtual tele-LARTing about their poor coverage and price VS the provider they just replaced so they gave me 200 extra mintues per month, permanently. Their coverage has improved, I used to go out of area in downtown Houston and at my old apartment right after they took over (both less than three miles from AT&T wireless dealers) but that appears to be an issue of the past.
