the memory check on power-up, that is a really weak check. I would strongly suggest running one of the memory test applications. My experience with this type of problem is that it is somehow related to memory (overclocking of the memory is a possible cause in addition to bad memory). The way that I found that my L2 cache was bad was to swap out various combinations of memory (that didn't work), and then I disabled both L1 & L2 cache and everything worked (granted VERY slowly). Then, I enabled the L1 cache and it still worked (and much faster). I then enabled the L2 cache and it didn't work so I disabled it again.
