Memory problems? by paradigmxp 2002-06-19 08:03:08
The behavior that you are describing can be caused by bad memory. My L2 cache on a Pentium 200MMX that I had went bad and things would crash randomly and I could never compile anything. I burned some ISOs of a ditribution on a CD from another box, but whenever I would go boot the ISOs, either I would get a CRC error or the computer when just go into an endless (well, unless you just turned the box completely off) cycle of reboots.

There are several programs out there that will perform a memory test. Just google for "memory test Linux" and you'll get a LOT of hits. Hope this helps.
