More of an in-joke. When they were shooting Best of Both Worlds (in which Picard gets assimilated into the Borg Collective), there were some Pontiac ads with Patrick Steward running on TV where he said "Ever thought about buying a Pontiac?"
In Best of Both Worlds, Locutus aka Picard aka Patrick Steward says "I am Locutus of Borg. Resistance is futile." Very dramatic scene. Anyway, when they were first shooting, Steward forgot his line. So he came on the screen, with an excellent Borg face, and said "I am Locutus of Borg. Ever thought about buying a Pontiac?" The whole studio crew couldn't stop laughing after that one. I found the story years ago, on a "Star Trek Outtake archive" somewhere on the web. ;)
And no, I haven't come across that commercial yet. |
