| ...spam is just send out to random @hotmail.com addresses. Some won't get through, but many will, and that's the point of spam. I get spam a lot (and I eat ham and jam and spam-a-lot) that's sent to nin_man, nin_man1, nin_man2, and so on @hotmail.com - it's nobody's fault but the arsehole spammers. Any of the major email providers get hit with this sort of thing, and it's rare that someone who uses Hotmail, Yahoo, Earthlink, AOL, or any other nationally available email service will escape being targeted in this manner. It takes a pretty wild and crazy email address to avoid it. Look at BlurOfSerenity's email address, and ask yourself why she never gets spam. You'll also note that Hotmail, Yahoo and Earthlink (and heck, maybe even AOL) have automatic mail filters that you can turn on to avoid the mammoth amounts of spam sent their way. And they're quite good at catching anything that wasn't sent directly to your address. Complaining about being spammed on a major email provider is a lot like complaining about heavy traffic on LA's interstates. You of all people should understand that you're going to get hit by spam there, no matter what. |
