      i've only heard/seen an 8-track once in my life by LunarRainn2002-06-17 22:26:04
I saw them come - and I saw them GO by inittab 2002-06-17 23:00:30
... I was happier to see them go !
.
The 8-track was originally an adaptation from the equipment used
in radion stations. They had machines much like 8-track players
that were called "Carts" for cartridge players. We had racks of
'carts' on the wall, with a seperate tape for each commercial,
promo, PSA, station-ID, or other frequently used sound effect.
Above your sound console, would be two or three Cart-Players,
So you coule line up your commercials, and press 'start', then
have enough time to get a record set up. The tape would play
once through, and stop- ready to be used again. As you recall,
the 8-track tapes did NOT rewind, but this was good for radio.
.
I still have ONE 8-track, even though I no longer have the
player to put it in. I remember playing the theme music to the
original "Star Wars" over and over...
