there's a reasonable chance that you WILL encounter a bitty-bug.

If you don't like the CPU overhead, then disable it while running
your high-intensity software, and re-enable before you start dealing
with the rest of the world via eMail, or downloads.

On the other hand--- if you are running Linux all day, you can
just smile to yourself as other folks complain about all of those
public nuicance code bombs out there.
