I have no idea what "Poutine" looks or tastes like, but the name is not all that intriguing to my narrow USian mind.... another case of succesful marketing (omigod...am I about to say that marketers may actually be useful in some marginal way??) was the way that the chinese gooseberry carved out a niche in US supermarkets.... who else knows the more appealing name that marketers gave it?
