It has been my broadband experience to have the cable split "at the box" coming into your house - the demarcation line, (I thinks). One branch is your DEDICATED CABLE MODEM LINE and the other branch for cable TV (can be split multiple times to wind it's way thru every room of the house). Go with a wireless router to increase the nodes on your network, while lowering the damage done by wiring. Besides, my wife enjoys nothing more than using the laptop to surf the web whilst lying in bed.
