| RG-6 is what you usually want. It's the standard thickness, which seems to be of utmost importance. It's also shielded, and will get you the best picture that coax can. And you're right to have one single splitter. Normally I'd recommend a signal booster as well, but I don't know how well cable modems play with those. You'll get a stronger signal all over the house if you have a single splitter, plus it makes tracking down future problems much easier if you don't have six 1-2 splitters all over the place. Run it under the house, if you've got room, stapling the cable to your floor joists. This makes the cable harder to reach for rats than an attic installation, and if you have to install new outlets, it's shorter distance-wise to drill up from the bottom and get a jack in at the proper height than to come down from the attic. If you install it under the house, it's important to have the splitter box's lowest connection higher than the cables, to keep potential condensation from running down the cable and into the box. |
