I dont know, you tell me! by breezeblock 2002-06-17 08:54:00
*Keeps pointy troll stick handy, just in case*

I recently heard a report that the Catholic Church is considering selling stock as a way to raise money for projects.

Dwindling congregations and an apathy to most churches (catholic and protestant) seems to be the current norm. In days gone by a church could show a measure of success by it's own opulence. It's a simple economic equation of supply and demand. Less people attending means less money in the coffers. The catholic church may not be in dire financial straits but I bet there are a few concerned looks going around! (This is only my opinion, not a statement of fact)

"Fear of God" is totally against most Catholic teachings of a loving, caring, fatherly AND motherly God.

Oh really? Beg pardon, must be confusing your lot with the methodists or soemthing! Then again, it's all preaching from the same book, isn't it? Or is your god better than than their god?

The role of "choir-boys" as well as alter serves is and has always been a volunteer role. It's not something that is bought, or affected by the ammount of money a church has. Furthermore, your implication that all clergy are homosexual child-molesters is... offencive.

Funny that! I make a statement that could have been interpreted a number of ways and you hit the jackpot with the most sordid! Ah well, to qualify: I find that reading about a priest/vicar/scout leader/social worker abusing a position of trust and power over children for their own sexual gratification...offensive! OK? I did not state that I think all clergymen are raving paedophiles. I didn't even imply it!

Are you calling Catholics slobs? *looks confused*

The word "Slob" in this context is a figure of speech indicating that the "flock" are more "sheep-like" than they realise. If you find the word detrimental, please substitute any of the following as your preference: "loser", "mug", "victim", "sap", "mark"

Um... the Pope himself doesn't own much of anything. The Chuch, on the other hand, owns many things. That'd be like telling Bush to sell the Smithsonion.

Really? Well by the same token Queen Elizabeth II doesn't "own" the Crown Jewels. However, if the need ever arose she could pawn 'em and no-one could stop her (she being the head of our state and all). As you seem bent on "absolute interpretation" I will qualify by replacing "Pope" with "Church".

One final note: If you decide to start (or in this case, restart) a thread on religeous issues please bear in mind that not everyone thinks and believes the same as you. Furthermore, a harmless comment from you may start a huge flame war when someone from another faith takes issue.
