| ...stems from the fact that saints are prayed to. That comes across as worship in the eyes of many, which leads to polytheism, and that's Right Out according to the Bible. You don't pray to your parents, dog, or country, so therein lies the difference. But I have to agree that what's done is in the spirit of the Bible. The basic message, "Be excellent to each other," is what's adhered to most strongly. I used to have some rather glaring issues with Catholicism, like any good Protestant should, but then one day I realized that all that pomp and circumstance didn't get in the way. It's a religion that's much easier to live with in today's world, and I think that, for all the trouble it's caused throughout history, religion is still a good thing because it gives people something to hold onto, and a basic set of rules to live by - those are things that are constant throughout all religions, and while I don't personally subscribe to the whole concept, I'm all for anything that makes it easier for those who do. |
