The Church teaches that abortion, in general, is wrong as a means to prevent life. If there's life, it was ment to be. If there's an abortion to, say, prevent the death of the mother... well, that's a Hell of a lot different. That's something to be decided with lots of prayer. Now, how many abortions are done for that reason...? Very few, IMO.
The Church is not "against" birth control. Many people (like me) use it so that they can live thier lives (I couldn't afford missing two days of my life every month because I was so sick). If you have, say, eight children, and that's all you can afford (both financially and emotionally), then it would be irresponsible to bring another child into the world. Besides this, there are many more cases in wich it is acceptable (fear of an abusive parent, for example). The Church IS against using birth control just because you don't want kids. If that's the case... well, you eaither should be going the planed parenthood rout (abstinance durring certain times of the month), or not having sex, period.
Not teaching sex education is... stupid on top of irresonsible.
Locally, we've had one priest who had been convicted of molesting a child... over twenty years ago. He was treated, and alowed back into the vocation... under some strict limitations. He's not alowed alone in a room with a child. Ever. Period. (he's got some other limitations that I'm not sure about) Yet, someone decided that this isn't ok, and being punished and treated for an incident twenty years ago isn't enough. It's made it's way back into the spotlight, and... God, I don't know what's even happening with it any more. There's so much anti-Catholic sentiment flying around that I wouldn't be surprised if he was jailed for a significant lenght of time or something for it. To be honest, the Chuch doesn't have enought priest to afford loosing any, wich is why he (and others accross the country) have been put back into the ministy. They will never be more than associate pastors, and they will never be able to so much as look at a child again without being questioned by thier superious, yet people (media... public?) don't want them to exist, much less preach. IMO, these are the men most qualified to preach - they've made mistakes, they've failed God, and they've gotten help and moved on to return to a holy life. |
