Catholic stock anyone? by Gary_7 2002-06-16 19:08:35
I recently heard a report that the Catholic Church is considering selling stock as a way to raise money for projects. This seems odd to me. I can't help but wonder how the value of the stock is going to be determined. I mean the church, by its very definition, is a non-profit entity. If there's no profit, then what will they base the value of the stock on? Also if there's no profit involved, how will the church pay out dividends to the "shareholders"? It sounds to me like somebody didn't think this through. Or maybe I'm totally wrong in my assumptions. It's been a while since high school economics and even then I wasn't always clear on all the ins and outs of stocks.
