I own two domains. The first was registered with InterNic, which ended up as Verisign. I then registered a new domain with GoDaddy. Recently, I decided to move my Verisign domain over to GoDaddy. Verisign sent me what appeared to look like a heartfelt "We're sorry to see you go" message. I almost fell for it. The day I responded to the final confirmation message, I got my "renewal notice" in the mail. Verisign wanted me to "renew" the domain I originally registered with GoDaddy. I don't think I'll be doing any more business with Verisign any time soon.
