The Man Who Sold the Moon? (Heinlein, for you unlearned heathens out there.)
DD Harriman blackmailed a cola company into funding him by walking into the director's office with a button promoting the cola company's biggest competitor. He mentioned that the pin (at that distance..across the office)was approx the same size as the moon would appear to someone on earth.
The competitor, he said, had a scheme to take some black powder and drop it in 'bombs' on the moon, in a precise fashion, resulting in an advertisement exactly like the button. (Or like Pitr has done, above)
He said, "While I would 'hate' to take money from them, I am definitely in need of financing."
The Cola CEO wrote him a check on the spot.
The neat trick is, he got his funding without having to do a single bit of advertising for EITHER company. |
