in both eurdora in windows and sylpheed I have filters set to look at subject lines, bodys of messages and senders for keywords/phrases/addy's that are commonly belonging to spam. Family member stuff gets sorted into its folders, listserves the same, etc. That way the bad stuff goes straight to trash and the few that make it through I delete manually but then may add another filter for to catch in the future.
