Slashdot has an excellent little essay on this newfangled virus. Basically, the "new" feature this virus has is the ability to, after you are infected using a traditional vector, create a backdoor for more viruses. The hype is that the backdoor is using images, but you've already infected, the backdoor is just icing on the cake. Unless people get in the habit of changing .JPG extensions to .EXE and then trying to run them, we won't be seeing any image-based viruses anytime soon.
