IM clients for linux... by allegory2002-06-13 07:57:54
The one I'm using is by Arienadean 2006-11-19 12:55:59
KXicq2 but I also do have Gaim and Kit as well. Everybuddy does a variety of messengers however I found the ver I was using quite buggy at the time. I'm not sure if its improved yet.

From freshmeat:

KXicq2 is the KDE2 ICQ client. KXicq2 supports all basic ICQ protocol v7 functions, like sending and retrieving of messages and URLs, and removing, renaming, and authorizing users. It can dock in the KDE panel and can act as a WindowMaker dock.app.

Gaim is a GTK-based messenger application. Gaim is NOT endorsed by or affiliated with AOL. It is actively being developed and supports many common features of other clients, including many unique features. It also supports multiple protocols, including AIM (Oscar and TOC), ICQ, IRC, Yahoo!, MSN Messenger, Jabber, Napster, and Zephyr.

Keep in Touch (KIT) aims to be a secure IM system for multiple platforms. It supports its own XML-based protocol as well as ICQ and AIM (toc). It provides encrypted connections between the server and client aswell as encrypted chat on all supported networks. The client can store contacts on the server allowing users to keep their contact lists between different locations.

Everybuddy is designed to become a Universal Instant Messaging client which will seamlessly integrate all existing IM clients and provide a single consistent user interface. Currently, Everybuddy supports sending and receiving messages in AIM, ICQ, Yahoo! Messenger, MSN, and Jabber.
