My mom's favorite story of my early years:
She sent me to get a pot of soup from the kitchen. When I didn't come back in a reasonable amount of time, she went to look and found me with the pot in my hands reading the newspaper the soup has been standing on.
I did not get into W&P past the third page. Possibly, I tried to read it at the wrong time. Perhaps, I will try again.
I would like to note, though, that there is much more to Russian literature than Tolstoy and Dostoyevsky. For some reason, "Crime and Punishment" is considered the expression of the essence of the Russian soul. Go figure... |
