But she was still required to teach us Scarlet Letter, something or the other by Dickens. She didn't have a single choice.
I think a lot of adults who are not well read think that good literature must be serious. Without thinking about what a Stephen King novel can teach about effective descriptions, Tom Clancy about world politics, Douglas Adams about thinking outside the box ... (I could go on :)
I had the opportunity to take a British Literature Class. That was great! Beowulf, Chaucer, Shakespeare, Swift ... really excellent class. |
