Objects in motion tend to stay in motion unless acted upon by an outside force.

Our atmosphere and gravity are the outside forces we have to contend with here on the surface of earth.


All that should be required of the capsule to get back to earth is to break orbit in the correct direction with the correct speed. If it can leave the moon it should be able to get back home. They should not be burning any fuel anywhere near the halfway point, except for maybe on temperature control rotations. Landing should require more fuel than launching on the moon.
