It does seem a bit odd doesn't it.

The HR head of a prior employer would always through out any resumes that had obvious spelling and grammar errors. She did not think anybody that sloppy could possibly be a competent employee.
She also threw out anything that said 'Dear Gentlemen' rather than 'To Whom it May Concern' or other non-specific greeting. Her thought was anyone that dense was bound to irritate a client or the IRS at some point.
