The pilots checked required redundant systems, determined that the instrument was in error, and made a "Command decision".
All of which is correct procedure in any command pilot situation. And they get sent back for remedial training because they decided not to waste the passenger's and the airline's time with an unnecessary wave-off.

Truly a triumph of bureaucracy over informed judgement. The pilot does what he's trained (and expected) to do, and gets punished.

Way to go, BA!!!
