And who said that I meant specifically GPL? There's also the LGPL which is more liberal as far as multi-licensing is concerned.
And I don't think you got the reference, either. The fact that it uses GNU (or normally uses it) is the freedom. No-one said “you have to write programs for linux under the GPL”.
