well my kids by Arienadean 2002-06-11 12:10:50
are pretty oblivious to it. They know its art most times or science. They take more offense at semi clothed and implied stuff on tv(which is quite rampant on at least north american tv shows) and tell me they find it gross.(they also noted they realize in real life people aren't like that)

My kids had seen eachother or other tots, etc naked when little and at first they asked why are they diffrent(well when it occured to them people are diffrent). I explained that boys and girls are diffrent like puzzle peices and its for having babies.(which led to a whole other discussion when they got more curious on the having babies part)

If anything my children since fairly young were bewildered at why some would take offense and what the big deal was. Not that they aren't shy at times or conservative dressers. Its like "oh yea they have one of those seen one seen them all." My kids have seen pics of classical greek statues and art which depict nudity and flashes of nudity elsewhere. None of it involved sexuality. Sometimes they'd comment on it. That they thought the art was nice overall or that they found it funny. If it was something they accidentally stumbled across on tv or elsewhere they knew they weren't to see it and shut it off then told me. They know there is a diffrence and that they are too young for one type of things.(also it helps that they find child birth and sexuality weird, gross, and depending on things funny...)

I'm also into art so I guess that also affects me in the sense I don't find nudity offensive. I though was raised by parents that were born in the 1920's and though liberal for them were still conservative for the time I was being raised(I was born in 1967). But never did they take offense at artistic nudes though.

Anyways my kids were 5 probably on average when they clued in boys and girls are diffrent and nudity is no biggie.(they know its wrong to wonder around nude in public, etc though as they had to learn that one... little kids will strip sometimes totally clueless and that was the case with my son til he was around 4) In my exhusbands culture/family they have a thing about simply wearing a bathing suite around the house when its hot(its taboo and "doesn't look good" so they claim) So I can see to some it might not be culturally acceptable and then theres a problem with finding a common ground acceptable to both cultures. Anyways though I think though they found nudity in art ok.<shrug>

Anyways I'm with you I don't get whats wrong with it. Also I think some though should think of the FYOS rule as a "pree teenage child rule" in the sense of "your neice, your nephew, your grandchild, or your child" and would you like them to read/see that sort of thing. My son was prefectly capable of using the computer well by 4yrs old. Both my kids have been able to figure out how to go online since 7 but I've taught them responsible use of the net and supervised them. I've not run net nanny or like as I've not needed it. As stated before they tell me if they've run into a bad site or inappropriate content as they know for them to be there is wrong. They also avoid such places.(most often its not occured to them to go there but who knows when they are teens) I find most 14yo teens no matter the gender or local are fairly aware of most things weather or not they participate in them. Actually usually by 12 they have a clue and younger than that it varies. Probably in only a few places would a above 12 yr old not have a clue.
